Norwegian archives hold a heritage treasure trove of artworks and photographs — as well as books, documents, and films — including farm chronicles, family sagas, and detailed knowledge about traditional food, customs, tasks, tools, and more. Most of it is in the Norwegian language.
Norwegian Roots draws from these rich archives to build a quilt of Norwegian history, using English to connect with the millions of descendants of Norwegian emigrants who no longer speak the old mother tongue — primarily living in North America — and a wider international audience.
Our purpose is not to write about queens and kings, or wars and misery, but to focus on people’s everyday lives and how they adapted to the landscape surrounding them.
